Argentina Protests | Thousands block major Buenos Aires road to protest social conditions
Argentina, Buenos Aires – Thousands of protesters and members of various social organizations cut off some of Buenos Aires main accesses, Thursday, in a ‘national day of picketing’ to protest the lack of work and social assistance in the country. Demonstrators marched to the Ministry of Social Development before the roads were cleared in the afternoon. Elena Gomez, one of the protesters, said, “Let the government know that we do not have supplies in the soup kitchens. People are dying of hunger, there is no work, the social plan is not enough to support the family, and the government promised us a number of varied products that would feed the dining rooms and gave us nothing, gave us only polenta, rice and semolina.” Protesters from around 40 organizations were calling for ‘genuine work,’ the creation of social programmes, among other demands as parliamentary elections loom.
