The World Health Organization issued an urgent appeal on Thursday (May 20), stating that it needs US$7 million within six months to deal with the health crisis in Gaza and the West Bank.
The violent conflict between Israel and Palestine has escalated. The WHO said in a statement that the WHO needs the above-mentioned funds to “achieve comprehensive emergency measures within the next six months.”
Some senior WHO officials also called for a halt to the bombing of the Gaza Strip on the same day, so that the local health system, which is facing severe shortages, can obtain assistance. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, said: “The closure of entry and exit points for patients and humanitarian health assistance, and strict restrictions on access to medical supplies are exacerbating this public Health crisis.”
