On Friday (May 14), the World Health Organization called on rich countries to reconsider vaccinating children against COVID-19 and donate the vaccine to the Global Coronavirus Access System (COVAX), which supplies vaccines to poor countries.
The WHO said that it is discussing with the United States about sharing the coronavirus vaccine with COVAX. “They (the United States) recognize that sharing these vaccines may help ensure a greater impact overall,” said Bruce Aylward, a senior WHO consultant, at a virtual conference in Geneva.
WHO Director-General Tan Desai also said that the second year of the coronavirus epidemic will be more deadly than the first year, and India is a huge worry. According to data released by the Ministry of Health of India on the 14th, there were 343,144 new cases of coronary disease in India in the past 24 hours, a total of more than 24 million; and 4000 new deaths, a total of 262,317.
For those who are allowed to complete the vaccination without wearing a mask in public, the WHO said that the local situation must be considered. The chief emergency expert of WHO, Mike Ryan, said at the meeting: “In a country where a country wishes to cancel the mask order… it can only be done with consideration of the intensity of transmission and the level of vaccine coverage in the region.”
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Thursday that people who have completed vaccinations do not need to wear a mask outdoors, and can do without a mask indoors in most places.
