Seven people were killed in two avalanches in the Savoie Alps in southeastern France on Saturday (May 8).
Xinhua News Agency quoted French media reports that around 11 a.m. on the 8th, two groups of tourists encountered an avalanche in Valois, Savoie. Four of them died and one survived. The local government mobilized mountain rescuers from the National Gendarmerie and two helicopters to participate in the rescue.
At about 2 pm, another avalanche occurred in the mountainous area between the towns of Villarog and Peisenancroix, killing three tourists.
