Due to the surging number of confirmed cases of coronary disease, the lockdown measures in the Indian capital of New Delhi will be extended for another week. The New Delhi ban was originally scheduled to be implemented until next Monday.
Agence France-Presse reported that New Delhi’s Chief Minister Kejriwal said on Twitter on Saturday (May 1): “Delhi needs 976 tons of oxygen, but yesterday we only got 312 tons. With that little oxygen, Can Delhi breathe?”
New Delhi has a population of 20 million. According to local media, the Batra Hospital in New Delhi ran out of medical oxygen on Saturday and killed eight patients, including a doctor.
The Delhi High Court specifically mentioned the Batra Hospital case in a hearing on Saturday and asked the Indian Federal Government to make special arrangements for Delhi to ensure that Delhi is allocated some medical oxygen.
