US President Biden announced on Thursday (18th) that federal facilities will be lowered at half-mast to mourn the victims of the Dalian Ring shooting in Atlanta, Georgia.
VOA reported that Biden and Vice President Harris will meet with Asian community leaders in Atlanta on Friday to express their support for Asian Americans.
Biden issued a declaration on Thursday, ordering that the American flag flying at the White House, Washington, DC, public buildings and venues across the United States, and all military outposts and naval ships should be lowered at half mast until sunset on March 22. The victims expressed their condolences.
On March 16th, two spas in downtown Atlanta and a massage parlour in the suburbs were shot in succession, killing eight people and injuring two. Of the eight dead, seven were women, and six of them were Asian.
The police said that the murderer claimed to have “sex addiction” and it is too early to determine whether the shooting was racially motivated.
The U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee held a hearing on discrimination and violence against Asian Americans on Thursday.
