Government documents obtained by the National Public Radio (NPR) show that the Trump administration is seeking a fine of hundreds of thousands of dollars for illegal immigrants who have not followed the order.
According to the US Chinese website, the Department of Homeland Security issued a notice to a group of immigrants throughout the United States asking them to pay a fine of up to nearly $500,000 for reasons such as “failure to leave the United States as previously agreed”.
This is the latest tough measure taken by the Trump administration against illegal immigrants to limit border immigration and strengthen internal enforcement.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency stated that the Immigration and Nationality Act authorizes the agency to impose a “civil fine” on foreigners who have received a deportation order or have been allowed to leave the country but have not left the United States, and the law provides that individuals who violate the rules are required to do so. A fine of no more than $500 per day.But immigration lawyers said that they have never heard of the law being used in this way.
